Showcase is a technical festival that showcases our department's
research and course activities in a festive atmosphere, interspersed
with events that show the fun side of computer science. While almost
all events have the name "CSA" written all over either in presentation
or execution, SofTeX belongs to you. Are you a student who feels great
about that exquisite piece of software you wrote for a project or
otherwise? You can be here and steal some limelight right here on the
sets of Showcase! SofTeX has had a history of enthralling entries,
leaving the visitors to the fest inspired to say the least. It is here
again this year too, inviting you to enter the hall of fame.
Here are a few good reasons why you must be here to show off that work
or project you are proud of:
- At SofTeX, you get to show your work to visitors, who come to see
what CSA has to offer. The event is expected to attract participation
from schools, colleges, research organizations and industry
professionals.
- You get to see and meet people who share your passion. Besides
you have an opportunity to meet and interact with some of the top
India
professors of computer science. This may provide you insights into
areas of improvement for your work.
- The Showcase committee pays for your visit and stay in campus.
Isn't this a perfect way to see what CSA and IISc is all about?
- Well, there's always a prize and a certificate to lure you.

Requirements for submitted software
-
All the software submissions should be
comprehensive and self-contained. If the software has some dependencies
on any other libraries/packages, this information should be indicated
clearly.
-
Software will be accepted in source
code form only - binaries
will not be entertained. It should be archived into a tar/zip file and
must contain:
- Readme file
The readme file should include the system requirements, details of
dependencies, installation procedure, or any other relevant detail.
- Documentation
A detailed write-up of 500-1000 words in the form of pdf/ps/doc/txt
containing the clear concept of the idea, and its implementation.
- Installation tool/script
The submitted archive should contain an installation script, Makefile,
or any other installation tool. The archive should also contain the
external shared-libraries/dependencies which are required while running
the software. However, if the dependency can be obtained (or
downloaded) easily, the authors only need to specify the dependencies
in their readme file.
- Test-cases
The archive must also contain few test cases for running/testing the
software.
-
The submitted software should be free from viruses,
worms and any other form of malware. If any submission is found to be
infected with such malware, it will be automatically disqualified
without further consideration.
- All entries should be the original work of the
authors. Pirated and/or plagiarized software will be disqualified
without further consideration.
-
Deadline
The registration and submission for SofTeX will
commence from 1 Feb. 2005. The deadline for SofTeX software submissions
has been extended till 22 Feb. 2005.
-
Evaluation process
Entries may be submitted by either individuals or teams not
exceeding four members. The
SofTeX team will first evaluate the submissions based on several
factors such as coding style, originality, utility, comprehensiveness
of documentation and
code
quality; but not necessarily in this order or weightage. Eight entries will make it to the
final round that will be held on campus during Showcase. The result of
selection of the submissions, along with
feedback/comments and possible areas of improvement, will be provided
to the applicants. Selected
submissions will be evaluated by a panel that consists of members of
the
faculty of the department of computer science, and senior students,
during the showcase techfest.
- Prizes
First Prize: Rs.
5000/-
Second Prize: Rs. 3000/-
Third Prize: Rs. 1000/-
Consolation Prize: Showcase T-Shirt
The judges' decision will be final and binding. The ranking will be on
the basis of factors such as time and space complexity of the method
used, solution methodology and coding style.
