About

Are you the kind who jumps out from sleep with an answer to the puzzle that was bothering you for some time? And do you have a brain that REALLY works? If the answer to any of these questions is yes and if using the gray cells is exactly what keeps your adrenalin flowing, here's just the event for you. Welcome to an exciting journey through puzzles and hints and clues that'll get you glued to the chair for hours in search of the treasure. Pit your wits with the best on this LIVE ON-LINE TREASURE HUNT as you track your progress as well as that of others in this hot pursuit. This multi-dimensional online treasure hunt has become a huge attraction in the CSA Showcase and this time we shall make it an even bigger hit. When the entire world is a participant, only the wittiest shall survive.

Rules
A 'node' in the following rules refers to a `page' having puzzles.
  • To play the game, you have to first register yourself at the Showcase central registration. Next, register yourself separately for GoldRush, using the same email id and password you used for central registration. You can login to GoldRush now using the email-id as login id and providing the password for authentication.
  • On the day of the event, once you login to GoldRush, at each node you will have to solve a puzzle presented to you. To solve some of the puzzles, a little knowledge of programming may come handy. During the event you can always see your status and that of your competitors on the screen.
  • If you are not able to see any image clearly save it and open.
  • You can log out from the game at any point and resume the game from that point at a later time, by authenticating yourself through login process. It is ensured that re-login will take you directly to the question which you were attempting.
  • Once you solve a puzzle at a node correctly you will be taken to the next node. But there is scope for you to do better! There would be two special nodes called "Fast-track nodes" where if you can solve the puzzle within a specified amount of time you can actually bypass the next node. That's called Fast-track treasure hunting! And of course, if you take more than the specified time to solve a Fast-track puzzle, don't worry, you are still in the race. Only you don't get the shortcut. But then the slow and steady can still win the race. And that's not all. If you think a puzzle is too hard (or too easy ;) you can actually get it changed! However, this lifeline is only available on selected nodes. And you can use it only once in the whole hunt.
  • With puzzles come hints. We can help you with hints at certain times. But, again on select nodes only. And given that we know you can do well even without hints, you can use the hint lifeline only twice in the whole hunt. This is not all, after each answer you must wait for few minutes to answer again in that level. We believe you will answer the first time. So why worry?. To get a hint you need to click on the "hint" link (if it is there for the node) and we will mail the hint to your e-mail account. Please donot reply to this e-mailid.
  • While submitting the answer for a puzzle be sure that you are doing so in the exact format specified. Remember that your answers will be checked by machine and hence a correct answer in the wrong format will be rejected.
  • If you have any doubts before or during the contest feel free to mail us at contact+gold@showcase.csa.iisc.ernet.in.
  • The first three people to get to the treasure will get the prizes. If nobody can get to the treasure, winners would be determined by the highest numbered node the participants are in. To be considered for prize you should have atleast crossed Level 12 in GoldRush. In case of a tie, whoever has reached the node earlier would be declared winner.
  • The decision of the organizers regarding the results will be final and binding. No correspondence in this regard will be entertained.
  • As this is the last rule, it has to be something bad. Well, if there are some (unexpected) technical snags, the organizers can reschedule/cancel the event. The deadline of the event may be extended if such a need arises.
